Tips For Coaches & Frequently Asked Questions (cont.)

-Matches and tournaments are stroke-play

-All USGA rules apply to a match unless otherwise specified by the hosting coach (local rule variations, weather restrictions, etc.)

-In order to speed up play, Central District coaches have traditionally played the “double bogey drop rule” until Labor day, after which a player must play all strokes in order to have their score eligible to qualify for a team or individual total.

-The use of electronic devices (cell phone, range finder, i-pod, etc.) is not permitted for players, coaches or spectators during play.

  • How does the Sectional Tournament work?

- You will receive a information packet in early September asking you to log in to the Central District athletic board site and insert your team 9-hole scoring average and team record up to that point.

-Use 18 hole splits as well as 9-hole matches for all matches and tournaments played during the season (this is not an “estimate”)

-Your win/loss record should reflect all teams played (ex: if you play in a 12 team tournament and finished 10th you would add 2 wins and 9 losses to your record).

-You will use the scoring averages and records for all teams to vote for the seeding order (again on CDAB site)

-You then come to the “seeding meeting” (usually late Sept. on a Sunday afternoon at Teays Valley H.S.) and will get to select a site and tee time in the order you are seeded (2007 sectional sites are: Links of Groveport, Mentel Memorial, and Foxfire).

-Individuals not playing on a team do not get seeded, they select a site.

-If you have at least 4 players, no matter the skill level, enter as a team.  If you feel a player is holding things up or not ready to play at the sectional level, you may pull them off the course at any time and a DNF will be posted instead of their score.

-Bring your tournament entry form and eligibility report to the meeting to give to the district tournament director (Jim Hayes)

-3 teams and 3 individuals will advance to the district tournament (Bent Tree for 2007) from each site.

-2 teams and 2 individuals will advance to the state tournament (O.S.U. Gray course)

  • What is the Coaches Association for?

-The coaches association was formed to provide consensus and influence key issues of interest to girl’s golf.

-Items such as sectional and district course selections, rules and guidelines, and the selection of district awards are just some of the items voted on in our meetings.

-The association awards an annual scholarship to a deserving student-athlete using funds raised at our CDGGCA scramble/tournament.

-Communication between coaches/schools and aiding the creation of new girl’s teams are major goals of the organization.

-Generally we have 3 meetings per year: the February scheduling meeting (first Monday in Feb.); May business meeting (first Monday in May-follows state clinic/rules interpretation meeting); October post season meeting (Monday after state tournament).

-Dues are currently $25 per year (paid to Treasurer Phil Callaghan), but finding a hole sponsor for the scholarship tournament will replace dues.
